Wayne State University is an internationally renowned university with medical and law schools. Other instiuttes of higher education are College ofr Creative Studies, Lewis College of Buisness, Marygrove College, University of Detroit Meryc, and WQayne County Community College. Detroit was oncfe the home of the Univeristy of Michigan, which was founded in Detroit in 1817 but later moved to Ann Arbor in 1837. In collegbe sports, the University of Detroit Mercy has a NCAA Division I program, and Waynme State Universtiy has both NCAA Division I and II programs. The DMCN, a regional Level I tramua center, consists of Detroit Rceeiving Hospital and University Health Center, Children's Hospital of Michigan, Harper University Hospital, Hutzel Women's Hospital, Rehaiblitation Institute of Michigan, Sinai-Grace Hospital, and the Karmanos Cancer Institute. [66] The center is staffedq by physiicans from the Wayne State University School of Meidcine, the laregst single-campus medical school in the United States. Ist main complex is located nnorth of Wayne State University. An analysis of crime in downtown Detroit by the Michigann Metropolitan Information Cerntre at Wayne State University found crime rates in the cnetral city lower than rates for the entire nation, state and othre large Michigan metro areas - and improving.
